I love how precise you put this well-known process into poetic words. And yes - your conclusion..sad but true. People want to be manipulated into love for some reason.
I feel like people play so many games when it comes to relationships that you end up having to learn how to play them all in order to be able to properly defend yourself. Unfortunately this leads to relationships becoming just one big mind game where you're always trying to pull one over on each other. It's a very depressing situation to find yourself in. At least in my experience.
I get your point. I find it difficult to accept this part of human nature too at times. These are moments that can be very depressing indeed. Mainly because it is something I cannot escape from and will be inevitably confronted with again and again. My resistance won't change it. For me it helped to be more accepting about my flaws, about my resentment against playing these games. And what helped me enormously is to just observe and confront people playing these games in a very calm manner - directly pointing out their behaviour and its emotional consequences. People that do not waste my time, should be able to react in a reasonable manner.
